Winds on the Lake was founded in 2003 by artistic co-directors Gary Viebranz and Matthew Inkster. The ensemble is committed to the performance and promotion of infrequently heard compositions written for chamber and orchestral winds by familiar composers as well as recent works for the medium by contemporary composers. This body of repertoire is representative of a vastly unexplored portion of the orchestral literature. Winds on the Lake utilizes a flexible personnel base; the ensemble differs for each performance and is determined according to the instrumental requirements for each program.
The regional ensemble is based in Erie, Pennsylvania, near the geographic center of a musically vibrant region. Our musicians have performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, Chicago Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Ballet Orchestra, Ohio Chamber Orchestra, Akron Symphony, Canton Symphony, West Virginia Orchestra, Wheeling Symphony, Lexington Philharmonic, Youngstown Symphony, Erie Philharmonic, and many other renowned and respected organizations.
